Pool Care & Maintenance
A pool in this part of New York spends half the year being protected from the weather and half being kept swimmable. Opening & Closing Services
Spring Opening: We pull and clean the cover, restart the equipment, bring the water to level and balance the chemistry until the pool is swim-ready. Coping and waterline tile get checked while we are there.
Winter Closing: We lower the water, clear and plug the lines so nothing freezes and splits, add winter chemicals and fit the safety cover. Water left in a return line is the expensive winter mistake, and it is entirely avoidable.
Weekly Pool Maintenance
Water chemistry drifts with heat, rainfall and how much the pool gets used. Left for two weeks, that drift is what turns a clear pool green or leaves a pump working harder than it should. A weekly visit catches it early, which is almost always cheaper than correcting it later.
Every visit covers skimming, brushing and vacuuming, testing and balancing the water, emptying baskets, checking filter pressure and running an eye over the pump, heater and automatic cleaner. Anything starting to fail gets flagged while it is still a small repair.
Pool Re-Plastering & Tile
Plaster does not last forever. It stains, it goes rough underfoot, and eventually it starts shedding material into the water — usually the point at which chemicals stop holding and the pool becomes harder to keep clear. Re-plastering puts a smooth, watertight surface back on the shell.
It is also the sensible moment to deal with waterline tile and coping, because the water is already down and the crew is already there. Doing them separately means draining the pool twice.

When should I open and close my pool in New York?
Pools here generally open once night temperatures hold reliably above freezing in spring, and close before the first hard freeze in fall. The exact timing moves year to year with the freeze-thaw cycle, so we schedule seasonal pool openings and closings around the forecast rather than a fixed calendar date.
How often does a pool need to be serviced?
Weekly is the sensible baseline through the swim season. We work to a fixed weekly schedule with the same technician, so anything changing in the pool is noticed by someone who already knows it.
Why is my pool green, and can it be cleared without draining it?
Green water almost always means algae has taken hold after sanitizer dropped, circulation fell off, or the pool got behind following heat or a storm. In most cases it clears without draining — balance the water, shock it, brush the surfaces and run the filter until it polishes out. Draining is a last resort, and on some pools it puts the shell or liner at risk.
How much does it cost to replaster an inground pool?
It depends on the size of the pool, the condition of the shell underneath, and whether waterline tile and coping are replaced at the same time. Those are not things anyone can price accurately sight-unseen, so we look at the pool first and quote before any work starts. Re-plastering is usually worth considering once the surface is stained, rough underfoot, or shedding material.
Should I use travertine, bluestone, or pavers for my pool deck?
All three work around a pool, and the choice comes down to how they behave underfoot and through a Westchester winter. Travertine stays cooler barefoot, bluestone gives a denser and more formal finish, and pavers are the easiest to lift and reset if a section settles.
Does a bluestone patio or pool coping need sealing?
Sealing is worth it here because of the freeze-thaw cycle. Bluestone is porous enough to take on water, and when that water freezes it expands and lifts the face of the stone and works the mortar joints loose. A penetrating sealer every couple of years slows that down. It is the same mechanism that loosens coping, which is why we look over the joints during openings and closings.
When does a pool liner need to be replaced?
Usually once it stops sealing rather than once it stops looking new. The signs are wrinkles that will not flatten out, fading and brittleness along the waterline, and water loss that evaporation does not explain. Tears near the steps or in a corner are normally the point where replacement makes more sense than another patch.
Is a salt water pool better than chlorine?
A salt water pool still runs on chlorine — a salt water chlorinator generates it from dissolved salt instead of you adding it by hand. Most owners find the water gentler on skin and eyes and the weekly routine less hands-on. In exchange you maintain the chlorinator cell, so it trades manual dosing for equipment upkeep.
What’s the difference between pool coping repair and replacement?
Repair deals with individual stones or joints that have lifted, cracked or worked loose, and keeps the existing coping in place. Replacement takes up the run and rebuilds it, which is the right call once the mortar bed underneath has failed or the line is no longer true. We check coping and waterline tile during every opening and closing.
